| 59 documentary films representing 11 countries were selected in GZTV on 15th October The pre-selection of films for the 2003 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival was completed on 15th October. After 15 days of pre-selection activities 59 of the original 135 registered films were selected for the finals, one film less than the original plan. This was because the pre-selection jury insisted on the theme of history and culture. Although there were some films which were recognized by the experts as of being a very high standard, the pre-selection jury decided not to compromise on its principles and selection criteria for the festival.
