2009 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival introduces two competiton sections: FOCUS and OFFICIAL COMPETITION. All selected entries will be screened to the public during the festival (Nov. 29-Dec. 13,2009) at public cinemas and universities. Directors of selected entries will be invited to GZ DOC to meet the audience and attend GZ DOC 2009 Award Ceremony on Dec. 11th, 2009.
FOCUS competition this year will be highlighting “Looking for Happiness". We welcome documentaries, docu-dramas as well as docu-animations showing joys, humors and fun in life to apply for FOCUS competition. All entries should be produced in 2007 or later.
OFFICIAL COMPETITION accepts films of all subjecsts other than FOCUS theme provided that the entry was produced in 2007 or later. All genres of documentaries are welcome to apply as well.
All entries into FOCUS and OFFICIAL COMPETITION will be eligible to Speical Mentioning Prizes selected by an international Jury.
Ten prizes will be awarded by a Jury of 6. Among them,

1.There is no limit to submissions provided that the documentaries meet the a.m. criterion. Chinese documentary films funded by non-official budget must apply through legally registered movie or television companies or related organizations. No entry fee is required.
2.The maximum running time for each entry is 100 minutes. It is recommended that entries be submitted in English. All non-English entries must be subtitled or dubbed in English. For promotional purposes on television, print media & other electronic media, the organizers reserve the right to use short excerpts of no more than one minute from the entries and film stills received.
3.Competition Entry Form (Form A) and sample film for pre-selection processing should be submitted to the address below before August. 31, 2009. Sample films should be in DVD PAL format. Please make sure to include every required item on the Competition Entry Form. Competition Entry Forms sent via email or fax are both accepted. We recommend application online in order to ensure all the formats and information will be correctly received.
4.Apart from Competition Entry Form and sample DVDs please send us:
one still from the film (for promotional brochures and news release, please send prints, slides or 5x7cm electronic pictures with 300dpi resolution)
a complete text of the program’s narration and dialogues in its original language together with an English translation. (Please send electronic copy).
—— Return address and a statement attesting to the film's replacement stock value.
5.Applicants with selected entries into the competitions will be informed by email by October 15th , 2009. Please send the screening version of the selected entry to Jiwen Moving Image Culture Communication Company Ltd. (GZ) before October 31st., 2009. The screening format of entries shall be Betacam SP and Pal.
6.The organizers will be held responsible for storing and insuring the Betacam tapes between their arrival at the Festival and their return shipment. All transport and insurance costs associated with the return shipment will be covered by the organizers. In the event of loss or damage, the organizers will be liable only for the replacement of the stock value. Such liability only applies to Betacam SP PAL tapes; DVDs are not included.
7.By participating in GZ DOC 2008, entrants signify their willingness to abide by the Regulations. Should any dispute arise, Chinese courts will have exclusive jurisdiction.
