Every year, China (Guangzhou) International Documentary Festival (GZDOC) chooses a theme with international concern as the theme for competition. The competition theme of 2006 is “Facing Poverty”. Senior professionals from both China and other countries will form the jury to judge entries and select award winners.

GZ DOC promotes Chinese documentary and introduces Chinese documentary filmmakers and producers to the world; and assists cooperation between Chinese documentary professionals and international colleagues. Since 2004, GZDOC has adopted the internationally well-received Project Pitching and built the only professional documentary trade platform, Documart, to bring Chinese producers closer to international buyers. In 2005, more than 30 high-level commissioning editors and buyers from all over the world attended the festival. In 2006, GZDOC is taking an innovative step to bring Chinese producers to attend international documentary market events in the world.

During the festival, there will be screenings of both Chinese documentaries and selected documentaries from cooperated festivals. The Chinese documentaries to be screened will be the accepted entries of 2006 competition.
